Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, and in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Division, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering Technology / Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies organized a scientific participation featuring a research poster titled "Evaluating Energy Efficiency in University Buildings: Sustainable Improvement Strategies at Al-Mustaqbal University." Held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, during "Sustainability Week," the activity was supervised by the lecturer Ms. Zahraa Salah Hadi. This initiative aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of (Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Climate Action), while aligning with the empowerment and protection pillars of the National Strategy for Iraqi Women.
The participation included an in-depth analytical study of energy consumption patterns within the campus, identifying technical improvement opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint and transition toward a smart, eco-friendly environment. Key scientific themes included monitoring the performance of lighting and HVAC systems, utilizing field auditing techniques, and implementing sustainable solutions such as smart LED lighting and natural light optimization. The findings demonstrated a potential 30% reduction in energy consumption through these sustainable strategies. The event, held within the college premises, was attended by the Dean, his assistants, department heads, faculty members, and students, who engaged in high-level discussions on energy management and innovative solutions, reflecting the department's commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability and enhancing the role of women in engineering and academic innovation.
