As part of its scientific activities aimed at enhancing students’ design awareness, the Department of Architecture Engineering organized a workshop for first-year students entitled “Drawing vs. Design: Understanding the Differences and Building Skills.” The workshop aimed to clarify the fundamental differences between drawing as a visual communication tool and design as a systematic intellectual process focused on developing innovative architectural solutions. It also highlighted the importance of integrating artistic skills with design thinking in architectural education. The workshop included a theoretical session that introduced the key concepts of drawing and design and explained the relationship between them within the architectural field. This was followed by a practical session featuring exercises that enabled students to distinguish between representing ideas through drawing and transforming them into comprehensive design solutions. The workshop contributed to strengthening students’ understanding of the design process and enhancing their ability to connect artistic skills with creative and analytical thinking, supporting their academic development and future architectural practice.
