As part of Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to strengthening the practical component of academic curricula and preparing highly qualified healthcare professionals equipped with scientific knowledge and professional skills, the Head of the Department of Optometry, College of Health Technologies and Medical, conducted a field visit to Babel Al-Ahli Hospital to monitor the progress of the Department's Summer Training Program and evaluate students' performance in a clinical environment. The visit included the follow-up of 32 students representing the first training group. The Head of the Department reviewed the implementation of the training program and assessed the students' commitment to professional responsibilities and institutional guidelines, ensuring the achievement of the program's educational and practical objectives. During the visit, the Head of the Department held a meeting with Mr. Mohammed, the Summer Training Coordinator at the Hospital's Continuing Education Unit. The meeting concluded with an agreement to organize training schedules for second- and third-year students, allocating three training days per week across the hospital's departments to provide comprehensive practical experience that enhances students' professional competencies and academic development. The Head of the Department also reviewed the hospital's clinical training procedures, which involve students in practical aspects of examining and diagnosing patients requiring vision correction and prescription eyewear, under the supervision of physicians and specialists. This approach enables students to strengthen their clinical and diagnostic skills while effectively integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. The Head of the Department commended the high standard of practical training provided by Babel Al-Ahli Hospital, expressing appreciation for the hospital administration and medical staff for their continuous support of the educational process and their valuable contribution to preparing competent graduates capable of practicing their profession with confidence and excellence. This visit forms part of the Department of Optometry's ongoing plan to monitor the Summer Training Program and strengthen collaboration with healthcare institutions, providing a high-quality training environment that aligns with quality assurance and academic accreditation standards while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education.
