Almustaqbal University, in cooperation with the European Union Delegation to Iraq and the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, hosted an international training workshop on developing institutional capacity and expanding access to Erasmus+ programs and opportunities, with the participation of a number of public and private universities from the Middle Euphrates region. The workshop was attended by the President of Almustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi; Director of the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Muwaffaq Sajit; and Ms. Asmaa Al-Samadi, Projects Manager at the National Erasmus+ Office in Jordan, alongside a number of cultural relations directors, Erasmus+ coordinators, college deans, and department heads. The workshop opened with a speech delivered by the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in advancing higher education and scientific research, developing institutional capacities, and expanding academic partnerships. He also highlighted Almustaqbal University’s growing interest in international programs and projects, particularly the recent awarding of a grant to one of the university’s submitted projects under the Jean Monnet actions of the Erasmus+ Programme. For his part, Prof. Dr. Muwaffaq Sajit highlighted the importance of the workshop in supporting the internationalization of Iraqi higher education and introducing universities to Erasmus+ programs, funding opportunities, and application mechanisms. He noted that such initiatives contribute to developing competitive academic and research projects and expanding opportunities for international cooperation. The President of Almustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, stated that hosting the workshop reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening its international presence, establishing effective academic partnerships, and promoting a culture of international projects. He emphasized that these efforts contribute to enhancing the capabilities of academic and administrative staff and creating new opportunities for scientific and research cooperation with international institutions and universities. The workshop will continue for three days, featuring training sessions and technical support for participants, as well as presentations on Erasmus+ funding opportunities, application procedures, project development, and ways to benefit from the cooperation and funding opportunities provided by the programme. The workshop also provides a platform for exchanging expertise and developing effective academic and institutional networks.
