The Department of Intelligent Medical Systems at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, addressed the topic of voice and language analysis using artificial intelligence technologies as one of the promising modern fields for supporting the early detection of mental disorders. This approach utilizes vocal and linguistic patterns that may provide indicators associated with an individual’s psychological state. These technologies rely on analyzing various characteristics, including tone of voice, speech rate, speech patterns, sentence structure, and vocabulary. Machine learning and deep learning algorithms are employed to process audio and linguistic data and identify subtle patterns that may be difficult to detect through conventional assessments. Research applications in this field indicate the potential use of linguistic and vocal indicators in studying certain mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Changes in an individual’s manner of expression, speech rate, or language content may be associated with their psychological state. However, such indicators alone do not constitute a definitive medical diagnosis. Artificial intelligence can also compare a patient’s current data with previous records, helping specialists monitor changes in vocal and linguistic patterns over time and providing additional information that can be considered alongside specialized clinical assessments when monitoring the progression of a condition. At the same time, the application of these technologies faces several challenges, most notably the need to verify the accuracy and reliability of AI models, ensure the protection of vocal and linguistic data as sensitive personal information, and account for linguistic, cultural, and individual differences when training and evaluating artificial intelligence systems. AI-powered voice and language analysis represents a growing research direction that may support the future of mental healthcare by providing tools for early detection and continuous monitoring, while specialized medical evaluation and diagnosis remain essential for determining a patient’s condition and establishing an appropriate treatment plan. These topics are part of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems’ commitment at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, to following the latest developments in artificial intelligence and its medical applications, while promoting scientific awareness of emerging technologies and their potential role in advancing the future of healthcare. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
