President of Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the General Assembly of the Euro-Mediterranean University Union (UNIMED) at the University of Barcelona Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the proceedings of the General Assembly of the Euro-Mediterranean University Union (UNIMED), held at the University of Barcelona. The General Assembly coincided with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of UNIMED’s establishment, with broad participation from university presidents and representatives of higher education and academic institutions across the Mediterranean region and Europe. Strategic Plan and Key Priorities The meetings included discussions and the adoption of the main pillars and strategic priorities of the Union’s action plan, focusing on advancing higher education and scientific research through the following areas: 1. Governance of Higher Education: Strengthening sound governance frameworks and effective administration in academic institutions. 2. Digital Education: Supporting digital transformation and developing modern learning environments and educational technologies. 3. Intercultural Dialogue: Promoting mutual understanding and cultural cooperation among the peoples and institutions of the Euro-Mediterranean region. 4. Employability: Enhancing students’ skills in line with the requirements of the modern labour market. 5. Higher Education in Emergencies and Crises: Supporting the continuity of education and learning under critical circumstances and during crises. 6. Sustainable Development: Activating the role of universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and protecting the environment. Review of Erasmus+ Programmes and Academic Mobility The General Assembly also featured dedicated sessions reviewing proposals and the vision for the Erasmus+ Programme for 2028–2034, as well as mechanisms for strengthening academic mobility for students and academic staff. Discussions also addressed capacity building, international partnerships, master’s scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions. It is worth noting that Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to have successfully secured a Jean Monnet grant under European Union programmes, reflecting its academic excellence and active participation in international higher education initiatives.
