As part of the College of Engineering’s commitment to promoting practical education and developing students’ scientific skills, students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a workshop entitled “Blood Flow Through the Heart and the Circulatory System,” under the supervision of Assist. Lecturer Zainab Sattar Jabbar. The workshop aimed to enhance students’ understanding of cardiac anatomy, the circulatory system, and the relationship between physiological concepts and biomedical engineering applications. The workshop provided a scientific explanation of the anatomical structure of the heart, including its four chambers and valves, while illustrating the pathway of blood circulation. The presentation began with the flow of deoxygenated blood into the right atrium, followed by its movement into the right ventricle, from which it is pumped through the pulmonary arteries to the lungs for gas exchange. Students also explained how oxygenated blood returns from the lungs through the pulmonary veins to the left atrium, passes into the left ventricle, and is subsequently pumped through the aorta to various parts of the body. The workshop further highlighted the fundamental differences between pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation. Furthermore, the workshop explored the relationship between cardiac functions and medical devices used to diagnose and monitor heart conditions, including electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, and patient monitoring systems. These discussions strengthened students’ understanding of the integration of medical sciences with modern biomedical engineering technologies. This student-led workshop reflects the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s commitment to encouraging scientific initiatives, developing research and presentation skills, and promoting teamwork. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
