As part of its efforts to enhance students’ scientific and practical knowledge and broaden their understanding of medical diagnostic systems and technologies, the Biomedical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Electrocardiography (ECG): Principles, Engineering Applications, and Diagnostic Uses.” Workshop Presenter and Supervisor: The workshop was presented and directly supervised by Engineer Zainab Ali Jabr. The workshop aimed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of electrocardiography, highlight its strategic importance within biomedical engineering, and demonstrate its essential role in supporting accurate medical diagnosis and patient monitoring. Scientific Topics and Workshop Content: The workshop covered several important scientific and technical aspects of ECG systems, including: * Explaining the scientific principles underlying ECG devices and their medical significance in recording and interpreting the electrical activity of the heart muscle, as well as facilitating the early detection of cardiac disorders and abnormalities. * Introducing the main components of ECG devices, explaining the function of electrodes, and identifying their standard placement positions on the patient’s body. * Describing the processes of acquiring, recording, and processing bioelectrical signals and converting them into accurate graphical representations used in medical assessment. * Reviewing the fundamental waves of the electrocardiogram, including the P wave, QRS complex, and T wave, and explaining their physiological and diagnostic significance. The workshop witnessed considerable interaction and interest from the attending students, who raised questions about cardiac signal processing and ECG device calibration to ensure diagnostic accuracy and patient safety. Activity Objectives in Relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): This scientific workshop directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, particularly: * SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being — by contributing to the advancement of screening methods and the early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases, thereby improving the quality of healthcare. * SDG 4: Quality Education — by enriching students’ theoretical and practical knowledge and developing their skills in operating and understanding biomedical systems and medical devices. Al-Mustaqbal University… Ranked First Among Private Universities in Iraq.
