As part of its efforts to enhance students' practical competencies and laboratory skills, the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science organized a scientific and practical workshop entitled "Blood Collection Techniques." The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the scientific principles and proper procedures involved in collecting blood samples, an essential skill in medical laboratories and clinical diagnostic practice. The workshop covered the fundamental principles of blood collection, introducing the equipment and supplies required for the procedure, including different types of needles and blood collection tubes. It also provided a detailed explanation of the steps to be followed before, during, and after blood collection, emphasizing appropriate site selection, sterilization, and compliance with occupational safety standards. Furthermore, the workshop addressed proper patient preparation and communication, highlighting the importance of providing clear instructions and ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure. Particular attention was given to common errors that may compromise sample quality and laboratory test accuracy, including hemolysis, contamination, and improper sample handling, along with the appropriate measures to prevent such errors. The practical component of the workshop provided participants with an opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with laboratory applications and develop the technical skills required for accurate and safe blood sample collection. This workshop reflects the Department of Biochemistry's commitment to supporting scientific and training activities, strengthening students' professional competencies, and preparing them to meet the practical requirements of medical laboratory work.
