The Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at Al-Mustaqbal University’s College of Engineering held its first Industrial Advisory Council meeting for the 2026–2027 academic year. Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi, Dean of the College of Engineering, attended the meeting, which was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Dhari Jawad, Head of the Department and Chair of the Council. The meeting was held in line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s efforts to improve engineering education, meet program accreditation requirements, and strengthen cooperation between academia and industry. The meeting brought together oil industry experts and specialists representing the Midland Refineries Company, the Oil Products Distribution Company, and the Dora and Najaf refineries, along with representatives from private-sector companies. Participants held advanced degrees and brought extensive professional experience from Iraqi oil institutions and international companies operating in Iraq and abroad. The Council reviewed the department’s vision, mission, and objectives and discussed its curriculum and proposed learning outcomes. Members also explored ways to improve practical training for students and align graduates’ skills with labor market needs in accordance with program accreditation standards and the department’s commitment to continuous improvement. Members discussed developing a questionnaire to gather feedback from the Council on the academic program and its learning outcomes. Following the completion of the approval procedures, the questionnaire will be submitted to the University Council. This step is intended to strengthen the role of industry partners in evaluating and improving the academic program. During a tour of the department’s laboratories, Council members reviewed the equipment, teaching resources, and infrastructure that support hands-on engineering education. They expressed appreciation for the efforts of the university, college, and department leadership to provide a learning environment that prepares qualified engineers. The meeting concluded with an agreement to organize a series of in-person workshops for students in the department. Council members will draw on their professional experience in the oil sector to help students develop practical skills and prepare for employment. The meeting forms part of the College of Engineering’s efforts to strengthen its partnership with industry and draw on professional expertise to create learning and training opportunities, improve academic programs, and raise the quality of engineering education. These efforts support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
