Second-year students in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at Al-Mustaqbal University developed a precise practical model of a distillation column, as it represents the core unit in crude oil refining and the extraction of its derivatives. The technical explanation of the project, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Zaid Imad, focused on simulating thermal separation processes and understanding the physical interactions occurring within the column trays. It also highlighted methods to enhance operational efficiency while ensuring minimal carbon emissions. The model was presented as a valuable addition to the department’s booth during Sustainability Week, illustrating the strong connection between engineering innovation and climate preservation, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 13, “Climate Action.” Furthermore, the activity reflected the efforts of both students and faculty to achieve a balance between industrial production and environmental requirements by proposing engineering solutions that reduce energy consumption and limit the negative impact of petroleum industries on the atmosphere.
