The Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a guidance workshop titled “Suicide: Its Causes and Prevention Methods,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Hassan Ali, as part of the psychological and educational guidance plan for the current academic year.
The workshop was held in response to the increasing cases of suicide in society, which requires strengthening awareness efforts to understand this serious phenomenon and reduce its spread, especially among young people and university students. The session addressed several key topics, including the psychological, social, and economic causes that may lead individuals to consider suicide, such as academic stress, isolation, depression, weak family support, and personal problems.
The lecturer also highlighted early warning signs that may appear in at-risk individuals, emphasizing the importance of recognizing these indicators and dealing with them seriously. The workshop further presented practical prevention strategies, including promoting mental health, building effective social support networks, and encouraging open dialogue within the university environment.
