Smart devices have become an essential part of daily life and are widely used for studying, working, communication, and entertainment. With the increasing use of smartphones, computers, and tablets, eye-related problems such as eye strain, dryness, and headaches have become more common. Therefore, it is important to follow healthy habits that help protect the eyes and maintain good vision. Important Healthy Habits for Eye Protection 1. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule This rule is considered one of the best ways to reduce eye strain. It means looking at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes while using smart devices. 2. Reduce Screen Brightness Screen brightness should be adjusted according to the surrounding lighting to avoid eye strain, and night mode can be used when needed. 3. Maintain a Proper Distance The distance between the eyes and the screen should be about 40–50 cm, with the screen positioned slightly below eye level. 4. Blink Frequently Long periods of focusing on screens reduce blinking frequency, which may cause dry eyes. Therefore, frequent blinking is important. 5. Use Proper Lighting Avoid using smart devices in complete darkness because the high contrast between the screen and the surrounding environment can strain the eyes. 6. Limit Continuous Usage Time Taking regular breaks helps relax the eyes and reduces visual fatigue. 7. Wear Protective Glasses When Needed Glasses designed to reduce blue light exposure may help decrease eye strain for some users. Conclusion Following healthy habits while using smart devices plays a major role in protecting the eyes from visual problems and reducing screen-related eye strain. With the continuous advancement of technology, maintaining eye health remains essential for preserving good vision and improving quality of life.
