Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Rudan Salman, The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the college, represented by the Head of the Unit, Prof. Dr. Thanaa Baha Al-Din Abdullah, carried out an awareness activity with the participation of Assistant Lecturer Shadan Salah Shubar. They spoke about the 25th of Dhu al-Qi’dah, which coincides with Yawm Dahw al-Ard [Earth-Spreading Day] for the year 1447 AH, corresponding to Wednesday, May 13, 2026 AD. Yawm Dahw al-Ard reminds us of God’s power in initiating creation, and represents a great opportunity to draw closer to divine mercy and atone for sins. It marks one of the most prominent stages of the creation of the universe—the day on which God manifested His great power by spreading and leveling the earth to make it habitable. The term “Dahw” in Arabic means to spread and extend, and it is the term used in the Qur’an to describe this pivotal cosmic stage. This blessed day is linked to Mecca, specifically from beneath the Kaaba, where the spreading and extension of the earth began. According to narrations, this day marks the beginning of the habitation of the earth, preparing it to be the cradle of humanity and the abode of the prophets and the Seal of the Messengers. The meaning of “Dahw” in Arabic: The verb “Daha” carries the meaning of spreading and leveling, which aligns with the apparent meaning of the verse. However, some exegetes and scholars have pointed to a deeper rhetorical and miraculous aspect of this word, as it combines the meanings of spreading and sphericity at the same time. In the beginning, the earth was submerged in water. On this very day, the water began to recede, revealing dry land that expanded and spread out from beneath the Kaaba. Some scholars compared this process to rolling a spherical object, making the term perfectly suited to describe an earth that appears flat to us on the surface but is in reality spherical. This concept aligns with the latest astronomical theories about the shape of the earth, demonstrating the precision and perfection of the Qur’anic wording. This day holds a great status in Islamic narrations. It is not merely a cosmic event, but a day that God has singled out with blessing and mercy. Hadiths indicate that it is one of the four days in the year specifically designated for fasting, due to its great virtue and immense reward. Some of the virtues and great events associated with this blessed day were also mentioned: The reward of fasting. The descent of mercy from heaven to earth upon Prophet Adam (peace be upon him). Great historical events that occurred on this day, including the birth of Prophets Abraham and Jesus (peace be upon them), the release of Prophet Joseph from prison, the settling of Noah’s Ark on Mount Judi, and the building of the Kaaba by Prophet Adam (peace be upon him). To benefit from the goodness and blessings of this day, several acts are recommended for the believer to observe: bathing, fasting, prayer, supplication and humble prayer to God, and abundant glorification, praise, and declaration of God’s oneness. Mecca is the place from which the spreading and extension of the earth began, giving it the status of the spiritual heart of the world. The activity was attended by the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Lecturer Hussein Al-Shammari, along with a number of the college’s faculty and administrative staff. #CollegeofEducation #Al-Mustaqbal_University
