Parasites are living organisms that survive by living on or inside another organism and obtaining nutrients at its expense. They can cause many diseases in humans and animals. One of the most common parasites affecting humans is Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. This parasite can be transmitted to humans in several ways, including eating undercooked meat, coming into contact with infected cat feces, or consuming unwashed vegetables and fruits. It can also be transmitted from a pregnant mother to her fetus, which may lead to serious complications affecting the child’s health. The symptoms of toxoplasmosis vary depending on the strength of the infected person’s immune system. In many cases, no clear symptoms appear, while some individuals may experience fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle pain, and general fatigue. In people with weakened immune systems, the disease may cause serious complications affecting the brain or eyes. Diagnosis of the disease depends on laboratory tests and blood analyses to detect antibodies against the parasite. Some patients may require additional examinations to determine the severity of the infection. Treatment is usually carried out using antiparasitic medications prescribed by a doctor according to the patient’s condition. Prevention is considered one of the most important ways to reduce the spread of this disease. This includes maintaining personal hygiene, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly, cooking meat completely, and avoiding direct contact with cat feces without wearing gloves, especially for pregnant women. In conclusion, raising awareness about parasitic diseases and their methods of transmission plays a major role in protecting society and reducing infection rates. Therefore, spreading health awareness and following preventive measures are essential for maintaining public health and safety.
