Dr. Munther Ali Ahmed, Lecturer at the Department of Media, College of Arts and Humanities, Al-Mustaqbal University, has published a new academic book entitled “The Technology of the Digital Media Shift: From Publishing to Participation… The Debate of Concept and Transformation: Electronic Media or New Media?”. The publication presents an in-depth academic analysis of the profound transformations brought about by the digital revolution in the structure of media and communication, offering a comprehensive perspective on one of the most debated issues in contemporary media studies. The book examines the structural transition from traditional one-way publishing to interactive, participatory media, where audiences have evolved from passive recipients into active contributors who create, produce, and disseminate content. Describing this transformation as a “digital media shift,” the author raises a central question: should contemporary media be defined as electronic media, emphasizing the technological platform, or as new media, reflecting a fundamental transformation in the structure and dynamics of the communication process itself? The publication provides a rigorous academic distinction between the concepts of electronic media, digital media, and new media, clarifying the characteristics and dimensions of each. It combines solid theoretical foundations with practical applications, drawing on leading media and communication theories alongside real Arab case studies, including Watan Blog and Harrak Karmash. The book also presents a critical analysis of media terminology and translation challenges, making it a valuable academic reference for researchers and a practical guide for journalists and media students. The book is currently available at the Al-Mustaqbal University Library and will later be released electronically through specialized digital platforms to further support the University’s academic publishing efforts.
