Kidney stones are among the common health problems that may become more prevalent during the summer due to high temperatures and increased fluid loss through sweating. This can lead to concentrated urine, creating favorable conditions for the formation of crystals inside the kidneys and urinary tract. The kidneys play an essential role in filtering waste products from the blood and maintaining the balance of fluids and electrolytes in the body. Their efficient function depends on adequate water intake to maintain diluted urine, which helps reduce the accumulation of minerals and salts that contribute to kidney stone formation. Therefore, regular hydration is considered one of the most important preventive measures, especially during hot days or when engaging in prolonged physical activity. The causes of kidney stone formation vary; however, dehydration is one of the major factors associated with an increased risk of developing stones during summer. Reduced fluid intake leads to higher concentrations of substances such as calcium, oxalate, and uric acid in the urine, which may contribute to stone formation. In addition, certain dietary habits, such as excessive consumption of salty foods, may increase the likelihood of developing kidney stones. To prevent kidney stones during the summer, it is recommended to follow several healthy guidelines, including: Drinking sufficient amounts of water throughout the day and not waiting until feeling thirsty. Paying greater attention to hydration when exposed to high temperatures or during physical exertion. Reducing excessive intake of salty foods and maintaining a balanced diet. Consuming vegetables and fruits rich in water and beneficial nutrients. Avoiding holding urine for long periods and paying attention to any unusual urinary symptoms. Kidney stones may present with symptoms such as pain in the sides or lower back, changes in urination patterns, or general discomfort. If persistent symptoms occur, medical consultation is recommended for proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In conclusion, preventing kidney stones during the summer is an important part of maintaining urinary system health. Adequate hydration, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and following proper dietary habits contribute to supporting kidney function and reducing the risk of complications.
