AL-Mustaqbal University strengthens its international partnerships in the field of sustainability during its participation in IWGM 2026

In its ongoing efforts to enhance its academic presence on the international stage and develop its expertise in sustainability and sustainable development, Future University participated with an official delegation in the 12th International UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Ranking Workshop (IWGM 2026), hosted by the Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld of Trier University of Applied Sciences in Germany, from August 24–26, 2026. The workshop brought together leading university figures, academics, experts, and specialists in sustainability from various international universities and institutions. The Future University delegation was headed by Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, President of Future University, and included Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shaker Magdy, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Future University. This participation underscores the university's commitment to expanding its international presence and learning about the latest global experiences and practices in the field of sustainable universities, particularly in green infrastructure, energy, water, and waste management, sustainable transportation, and education and scientific research related to sustainable development. The workshop gained international significance as it was held at Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld, a leading global model for implementing university sustainability concepts. It was ranked first in Germany and fourth globally in the 2025 UI GreenMetric ranking, and has consistently topped the German university rankings since 2017. On the sidelines of the workshop, the Future University delegation met with Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., M.I.A., Ph.D., President of UI GreenMetric. Discussions focused on strengthening communication and academic cooperation, exchanging expertise and experiences in sustainability within higher education institutions, and showcasing Future University's experience and initiatives aimed at developing a sustainable campus. To further enhance cooperation and mutual respect, the Future University delegation presented the President of UI GreenMetric with the university's shield in recognition of the organization's international efforts to support sustainability practices and promote the concepts of green and sustainable universities worldwide. The delegation also presented the Future University Shield to Professor Dr. Dorit Schumann, President of Trier University of Applied Sciences, in recognition of the university's outstanding role in supporting sustainability principles and developing an advanced university model with a global reputation in this field. The honor also extended to Professor Dr. Klaus Helling, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Business and Law at the Birkenfeld Eco-Campus, in appreciation of his efforts in organizing and hosting the workshop and his role in supporting international academic collaborations in the fields of environment and sustainability. Future University's participation in this international forum reflects its strategic direction towards expanding its network of international academic partnerships, benefiting from leading global experiences, and enhancing its performance in sustainability indicators and international rankings, in addition to showcasing the university's sustainable development initiatives and extending their impact from the campus to the wider community. Through these partnerships, the university reaffirms its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, developing a more efficient and sustainable university environment, and building effective international academic partnerships that contribute to supporting education, scientific research, and community service.
