The Dean of the College of Engineering at Al-Mustaqbal University, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi, presented a specialized scientific research paper as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s delegation participating in the 12th International Workshop on UI GreenMetric for Sustainable Universities (IWGM 2026), hosted by the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus of Trier University of Applied Sciences in Germany. The presented research paper, entitled “The Effects of Visual Pollution Resulting from Waste Sites on the Mental and Psychological Performance of School Students,” addressed the issue of visual pollution resulting from the random accumulation of waste in areas surrounding educational institutions and its direct effects on the psychological, cognitive, and behavioral well-being of students. The study presented the findings of a comprehensive and documented field survey involving 400 secondary school students in Babil Governorate. The survey utilized a scientific scale consisting of 15 items focused on measuring levels of concentration, organization of thoughts, anxiety, psychological discomfort, general behavior, and environmental awareness, supported by real field photographs from the study sites in Babil. The results revealed notable levels of difficulty in concentration and anxiety among students exposed to visually polluted environments. The research attracted the attention and engagement of participants at the international workshop, highlighting the educational and psychological dimensions of the issue, in line with Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to strengthening its international scientific presence and connecting its research outputs with real-world environmental challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals.
