Dr. Hashem Saihud Mohammed participated in the session which was held in cooperation with the Alexandria Cultural Forum addressing the literary experience of the novelist Shouqi Kareem and discussing his two novels Al-Hussein is Killed Again and Al-Sabounjiya. The session began with a bibliographic paper presented by the session moderator the writer Hisham Al-Issa. Afterwards, the guest novelist briefly spoke about his literary experience and his daily rituals of reading and writing. The literary and dialogical session featured the presentation of several critical papers that examined the novel Al-Hussein is Killed Again and the philosophical and dialectical questions it raises. The papers highlighted the use of the figure of Imam Hussein peace be upon him, to condemn the reality in Iraq, as well as the embodiment of the conflict between good and evil. The papers also addressed the novel Al-Sabounjiya whose narrative timeframe the novelist set during the monarchical era in Iraq. It portrayed the conflict between the margin and the center and the attempts to exploit marginalized people to achieve political and personal goals. The session included critical interventions in which Dr. Hashem Saihud Mohammed participated. They discussed Shouqi Kareem’s narrative experience and the intellectual and artistic dimensions of his works along with the use of symbolism title imagery and suggestion and the role of the novel in raising questions and enhancing the reader’s awareness. The session witnessed discussions and interventions by the attending academics writers and artists which addressed the creative experience of the novelist Shouqi Kareem and his literary career in the novel short story theater television and radio. #AlMustaqbal_University_First_in_Iraq
