As part of the scientific and training activities of the Department of Community Health Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies, a specialized scientific activity entitled “Step by Step Guide to Checking a Journal for Your Manuscript” was held. The activity was delivered by Prof. Dr. Aqeel Handhal Al-Joudhary, Head of the Department of Community Health Technologies, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Presidency of Al-Mustaqbal University. The activity focused on developing the skills of researchers and postgraduate students in dealing with scientific journals and selecting suitable journals for research publication. It introduced participants to methods for verifying journal indexing in Scopus and Web of Science, understanding journal quality indicators such as CiteScore, SJR, SNIP, Impact Factor, and H-index, and recognizing journal quartile rankings from Q1 to Q4. The activity also featured practical applications on how to distinguish reputable journals from predatory, hijacked, fake, and commercial journals, in addition to introducing reliable scientific sources and databases that researchers can use before submitting their manuscripts for publication. This activity reflects the Department of Community Health Technologies’ commitment to supporting researchers and postgraduate students and developing their ability to evaluate scientific journals according to indexing, ranking, quality indicators, and publication fees, thereby contributing to improving the quality of scientific publishing and avoiding unreliable journals.
