The concept of the digital twin represents one of the emerging trends in biomedical engineering and intelligent healthcare systems. It is based on creating a digital model that accurately simulates a specific patient, a medical device, or even the operational environment of an entire hospital. This model enables different scenarios to be simulated and their outcomes analyzed before they are implemented in real-world settings, providing an advanced tool for supporting medical and operational decisions and improving the efficiency of healthcare services. In clinical practice, digital twins can be used to create models that simulate certain organs or aspects of a patient’s health condition and assess potential responses to different treatments before they are actually administered. They can also support surgical planning by simulating available approaches and options, evaluating potential risks, and assisting in selecting appropriate treatment methods according to the specific characteristics of each case. The use of digital twins is not limited to clinical applications; it also extends to hospital management and facility operations. They can be employed to simulate patient flow, manage medical equipment and devices, allocate resources, analyze waiting times, and examine potential operational pressure scenarios. This enables healthcare institutions to improve operational efficiency and prepare more effectively for potential challenges and crises. The effectiveness of digital twins can be further enhanced when integrated with artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT). In such integrated systems, the digital model can be continuously updated using real-time data collected from medical devices, sensors, and healthcare information systems. These data can then be analyzed to identify changes and patterns and provide decision-support indicators in a timely manner. The significance of this technology lies in its ability to integrate real-world data, digital simulation, and intelligent analysis within a unified framework, making it a promising tool for advancing modern healthcare. As artificial intelligence and medical data technologies continue to evolve, digital twins can contribute to developing hospitals that are more predictive and efficient in resource management, while supporting clinical decision-making and responding more effectively to future challenges.
