Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al Mustaqbal University, participated in a specialised workshop organised by the Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives to discuss the proposed new Private Higher Education Law. The workshop was attended by several members of the parliamentary committee, presidents of public and private universities, and representatives of relevant academic and professional unions and associations. The workshop addressed a number of issues related to the proposed law and its provisions concerning the regulation and development of the private higher education sector, with the aim of establishing a legislative framework that responds to the requirements of the next stage and the needs of higher education institutions. During the workshop, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi presented a working paper containing a number of observations and proposals concerning several articles and provisions of the proposed law. The paper reflected an academic and institutional perspective aimed at contributing to the development of the legislation and enhancing the clarity of its provisions in a manner that serves the advancement of private higher education in Iraq. In a statement to the university’s Media Office, the President of Al Mustaqbal University expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Parliamentary Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee in reviewing and developing legislation governing the higher education sector. He also emphasised the importance of continuing dialogue between legislative authorities and academic institutions to reach a well-developed and comprehensive version of the proposed legislation. He further highlighted that advancing this law represents an important step towards strengthening academic standards, improving the quality of educational outcomes, supporting the academic environment, and achieving the required integration and cooperation between the public and private higher education sectors in Iraq.
