The examination period is considered one of the times when students experience high levels of psychological stress due to fear of failure, the large amount of study material, and limited time. Psychological stress may directly affect concentration, the ability to understand information, and academic performance.
Effects of Psychological Stress
Severe stress may cause symptoms such as anxiety, lack of sleep, headaches, fatigue, and poor concentration. It may also make it difficult for students to recall information during examinations, which can negatively affect their performance, particularly when anxiety levels are high.
Ways to Reduce Stress
Students can reduce examination-related stress by managing their time and preparing an appropriate study schedule, getting enough sleep, engaging in physical activity, maintaining a balanced diet, practicing relaxation and deep-breathing techniques, and avoiding intensive last-minute studying.
Conclusion
Psychological stress during the examination period is associated with students’ academic performance. High levels of stress may reduce concentration and academic achievement. Therefore, effective time management, adequate sleep, and early preparation are important strategies for reducing stress and improving academic performance.
