Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new accomplishment in the field of university sustainability, ranking first among private universities in Iraq and third nationally among Iraqi public and private universities, according to the results of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, as announced by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in its statement issued today regarding the participation of Iraqi universities and colleges in the ranking. The achievement comes following the inclusion of 92 Iraqi universities and colleges in the UI GreenMetric 2026 Ranking, reflecting the growing attention paid by Iraqi higher education institutions to sustainability principles and their implementation within the university environment. Al-Mustaqbal University achieved a total score of 8,475 out of 10,000, reflecting its continuous efforts to establish sustainability principles across academic, administrative, and environmental fields, while promoting the transition toward a smart and sustainable university environment, in line with its motto: “Towards a Sustainable University.” The University demonstrated outstanding performance across several ranking indicators, most notably the Water category, where it achieved a full score of 1,100 out of 1,100 (100%), ranking first in Iraq and 23rd globally in this category. In the Education and Research category, Al-Mustaqbal University ranked second in Iraq and 102nd globally, with a performance rate of 94.23%. It also ranked second in Iraq in the Waste Management category, achieving a score of 82.35%. The University also recorded advanced results in other categories, achieving 85.23% in Governance and Digitalization, 84.56% in Transportation, and 83.75% in Energy and Climate Change. These results reflect the comprehensive nature of its efforts to establish an integrated sustainable university system encompassing education, scientific research, resource management, infrastructure, and governance. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, congratulated the University’s faculty members, staff, and students on this achievement, commending their continuous efforts and contributions to the University’s journey toward sustainability and excellence. He emphasized that this accomplishment is the outcome of collective institutional work, a strong team spirit, and the University’s commitment to implementing sustainability practices across its various sectors.
