Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new accomplishment in university sustainability, ranking first among private universities in Iraq and third nationally among public and private universities, according to the results of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, as announced by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in its statement issued today. This achievement comes as 92 Iraqi universities and colleges entered the UI GreenMetric 2026 ranking. Al-Mustaqbal University achieved a total score of 8,475 out of 10,000, reflecting its continued efforts to establish and implement sustainability principles across academic, administrative, and environmental fields, in line with its slogan, “Towards a Sustainable University.” The university demonstrated outstanding performance across several ranking categories, achieving a full score in the Water category, with 1,100 out of 1,100 points (100%), ranking first in Iraq and 23rd globally in this category. In the Education and Research category, Al-Mustaqbal University ranked second in Iraq and 102nd globally, with a performance rate of 94.23%. It also ranked second nationally in the Waste Management category, achieving 82.35%. The university also recorded advanced results in other categories, including Governance and Digitalization (85.23%), Transportation (84.56%), and Energy and Climate Change (83.75%), reflecting the comprehensive nature of its efforts to build an integrated and sustainable university environment. On this occasion, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, congratulated the university’s faculty members, staff, and students on this achievement, commending their efforts and dedication. He emphasized that this accomplishment is the result of collective institutional work, teamwork, and the university’s commitment to continuing its journey toward excellence and sustainability. The University President further affirmed that this achievement will serve as a motivation to continue developing and expanding sustainability initiatives, strengthening the position of Al-Mustaqbal University, and reinforcing its role as an Iraqi academic model that brings together education, innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility. This advancement in the UI GreenMetric 2026 Ranking confirms that sustainability at Al-Mustaqbal University has become an integrated institutional approach reflected in education, scientific research, resource management, infrastructure, and governance, contributing to the efforts to build a more sustainable future for Iraq.
