On Sunday, 27 September 2026, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, chaired an expanded meeting to discuss mechanisms for activating the agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded between the university and a number of local and international academic and research institutions. The meeting also explored ways to transform these agreements into academic and research cooperation programs with clear objectives and measurable outcomes. The meeting was attended by the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi; the Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, Professor Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd; the Dean of the College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi; as well as a number of directors of departments and centers at the University Presidency and the relevant colleges. The meeting reviewed the status of existing agreements and memoranda of understanding and assessed the level of benefit derived from them. It also discussed the executive frameworks required to activate these agreements, ensuring a transition from their formal and documentary nature toward effective institutional partnerships based on specific academic and research programs and activities. The participants also discussed potential areas of cooperation with partner academic institutions, particularly joint scientific research, knowledge and expertise exchange, training and professional development, academic mobility for students and faculty members, the organization of scientific conferences and seminars, and the development of joint academic and research programs and projects. Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi emphasized the importance of viewing academic agreements and partnerships as effective instruments for advancing scientific and research performance rather than merely as formal frameworks. He stressed the need to establish clear implementation plans for each agreement, identify priorities, and develop monitoring and evaluation indicators to maximize their practical benefits and ensure the sustainability of their outcomes. The University President noted that activating academic partnerships requires the integration of efforts among colleges, departments, and research centers, as well as identifying areas of cooperation that align with the university’s academic disciplines and scientific priorities. This would facilitate directing agreements toward projects and programs that contribute to developing the educational and research environment and expanding opportunities for academic and scientific exchange. The meeting also emphasized the importance of regular institutional follow-up of agreements and memoranda of understanding, assessing their implementation and documenting their outcomes. Such practices contribute to identifying areas for development, strengthening partnerships with academic and research impact, and exploring new avenues of cooperation with local and international scientific and research institutions.
