Training Workshop at Al-Mustaqbal University to Enhance Participation Opportunities in Erasmus+ Programmes and Grants

Al-Mustaqbal University hosted the closing session of the specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programmes and grants, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop was attended by representatives of a number of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region, in the presence of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. On its third and final day, the workshop concluded with a series of specialized training and interactive sessions addressing several key topics, particularly the Erasmus Mundus opportunities available to students and academic staff and the main eligibility and application requirements. The sessions also covered the requirements for establishing university partnerships and developing proposals for joint Master’s degree programmes, contributing to enhanced opportunities for international academic cooperation and the development of joint educational programmes. The sessions further focused on the role of universities in promoting awareness of the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ programmes and supporting students in preparing their applications. Discussions also addressed the major challenges faced by Iraqi universities in participating in these programmes, together with practical steps to overcome them and enhance universities’ readiness to develop and submit competitive projects and proposals. During his participation in part of the third-day sessions, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, emphasized the importance of moving beyond raising awareness of Erasmus+ programmes towards effectively utilizing available opportunities to establish international partnerships and implementable projects. He also highlighted the importance of benefiting from the workshop outcomes to develop the capacities of Iraqi universities and strengthen their participation in European academic and research cooperation programmes. It is noteworthy that the three-day workshop included specialized training sessions and discussions addressing mechanisms for benefiting from Erasmus+ opportunities, institutional capacity building, preparation of competitive international projects, International Credit Mobility (ICM), student mobility, the administrative and financial aspects of European projects, and application mechanisms for Jean Monnet grants. The hosting of this event by Al-Mustaqbal University reflects its commitment to supporting the internationalization of higher education and strengthening international academic partnerships. It also aims to empower students and academic staff to benefit from European Union programmes and opportunities, while encouraging universities in the Middle Euphrates region to develop high-quality proposals and projects that contribute to advancing education and scientific research and opening broader horizons for international cooperation.
