Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new academic and scientific milestone by making its first-ever appearance in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 (THE WUR 2027), one of the world’s most prominent university rankings. The university has been placed among globally ranked institutions in the 1201–1400 band, reflecting its continuous development in academic and research performance and strengthening its presence on the international higher education landscape.
The university’s inclusion comes within a ranking that features 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories. Al-Mustaqbal University ranked second among Iraqi universities outside the Kurdistan Region, fourth when universities in the region are included, and first among Iraqi private universities, marking an important milestone in the university’s journey toward enhancing its global presence.
The Times Higher Education ranking is based on a range of international indicators and criteria that assess university performance across key areas, including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook, providing a comprehensive framework for evaluating universities’ academic and research performance globally.
At the level of individual ranking indicators, Al-Mustaqbal University achieved second place in Iraq for international outlook, fifth place for research environment, and sixth place for research quality. These results reflect the growing strength of its research activity, the expansion of its international academic partnerships, and the continued development of its educational and research environment.
On this occasion, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, congratulated the university’s faculty members, staff, and students on this achievement. He expressed his appreciation and pride in the continuous efforts made by the university’s various academic, administrative, and research units, which contributed to achieving this global recognition and strengthening the university’s position in international rankings.
The University President also commended the valuable contributions of faculty members, researchers, employees, and students, as well as their strong institutional spirit. He emphasized that this achievement is the result of integrated academic, research, and administrative efforts, investment in educational quality, support for scientific research and international publication, and the expansion of global academic partnerships and collaboration.
Al-Mustaqbal University’s entry into the THE World University Rankings 2027 represents a continuation of its ongoing efforts to develop its academic and research systems, strengthen its international outlook, and improve institutional performance indicators. This is in line with its vision of building a sustainable and globally leading university, while further enhancing the presence of Iraqi higher education in international forums and rankings.
