Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, the College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a specialized scientific seminar on October 6, 2026, in celebration of World Geological Diversity Day, with the participation of a distinguished group of specialized academics and researchers.
The seminar was attended by the Head of the Cybersecurity Department at the College of Science, along with a number of faculty members and students, reflecting the university's commitment to academic engagement and scientific interaction among its various departments and disciplines.
The seminar highlighted the importance of geological diversity and its pivotal role in sustaining ecosystems and supporting the national economy, while also addressing the scientific and productive significance of natural resources.
The seminar featured a number of scientific topics and research papers presented by:
• Prof. Dr. Jawad Kadhim Manea – College of Science, University of Babylon.
• Prof. Dr. Jaafar Al-Zubaidi – College of Science, University of Babylon.
• Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Latif Hussein – College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University.
The lectures addressed the characteristics of geological diversity in Iraq, the importance of protecting unique geological sites and managing them in line with sustainable development requirements, in addition to discussing the interrelationship between climate change and geological formations.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the participants emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific research in the field of Earth sciences and intensifying academic activities that contribute to raising awareness among students and the wider community about preserving geological resources and making optimal use of them.
