Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED General Assembly 2026), hosted by the University of Barcelona, Spain, on October 7–8, 2026. The event coincided with the 35th anniversary of UNIMED's founding, featuring wide participation from university presidents and representatives of academic institutions across the Mediterranean basin and Europe.
The meetings witnessed the adoption of the key strategic priorities for the Union’s action plan, which focused on:
• Higher Education Governance: Enhancing good governance frameworks in academic institutions.
• Digital Education: Supporting digital transformation and modernizing learning environments.
• Intercultural Dialogue: Fostering cultural understanding and collaboration across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
• Graduate Employability: Developing students' skills to align with modern labor market demands.
• Higher Education in Emergencies: Ensuring the continuity of higher education during crises and fragile contexts.
• Sustainable Development: Activating the role of universities in achieving SDGs and environmental protection.
The sessions also featured reviews and proposals for the Erasmus+ Program (2028–2034), alongside mechanisms to boost student and staff mobility, capacity building, master's scholarship opportunities, and Jean Monnet Actions.
It is worth noting that Al-Mustaqbal University is the only private university in Iraq to secure an accredited European Union Jean Monnet grant, reflecting its academic excellence and active presence in international higher education projects.
Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi emphasized Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to building global partnerships and implementing best academic practices, thereby bolstering the university's international standing and supporting national strategies for educational and research development in Iraq.
