Scientific Article: The Importance of Role Models in Shaping a Child’s Personality (Asst. Lec. Aya Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Ali) Positive role models play an essential role in shaping children’s personalities, behaviors, and values from an early age. Children learn not only through verbal instructions but also by observing and imitating the actions of people around them. Growing up in an environment characterized by honesty, respect, cooperation, and responsibility can help children gradually develop these qualities through everyday experiences. Parents and teachers are particularly influential because their behavior provides practical examples of how to communicate, solve problems, and treat others. However, inconsistencies between what adults say and what they do may confuse children and reduce the effectiveness of educational guidance. In the digital age, role models extend beyond families and schools to include online personalities and social media influencers, making it increasingly important to guide children toward appropriate content and encourage critical thinking. Effective parenting and education therefore require more than giving advice or setting rules; they depend on consistently demonstrating positive behavior. When children observe ethical values being practiced in real situations, they are more likely to develop a balanced personality built on confidence, empathy, respect, and social responsibility.
