Healthcare is undergoing a rapid transformation driven by significant advances in wearable medical devices, which have helped shift patient monitoring beyond hospitals and clinics toward continuous health monitoring in patients’ everyday environments. These technologies include smartwatches, health-monitoring bracelets, biosensors, and internet-connected measurement devices capable of continuously tracking a wide range of vital indicators, such as heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep quality, physical activity, and blood glucose levels in diabetic patients. The significance of these devices lies in their ability to continuously collect health data and transmit it to intelligent medical systems, enabling healthcare professionals to monitor patients’ conditions in real time, detect abnormal changes at an early stage, and take appropriate action when necessary. This development represents a shift from the traditional healthcare model, which responds to health problems after they occur, toward a more proactive approach based on continuous monitoring and early warning. Wearable devices also contribute to improving patients’ quality of life by supporting remote health monitoring, reducing unnecessary medical visits, and helping alleviate pressure on healthcare institutions. With the integration of artificial intelligence and big data analytics, accumulated health data can be utilized to identify patterns and abnormal indicators, support the prediction of potential health risks, and contribute to developing treatment and care plans that are better suited to each patient’s individual needs. As sensing, communication, and artificial intelligence technologies continue to advance, wearable medical devices are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of medicine. They are likely to become a key component of smart, patient-centered healthcare, supporting the transition toward a more proactive, accurate, and responsive healthcare system that meets individual needs.
