With the rapid pace of digital transformation, the adoption of cloud services, and the growing reliance on remote work, traditional firewalls are no longer sufficient on their own to address modern cyber threats, particularly insider attacks and the theft of login credentials. In this context, digital identity has emerged as a fundamental pillar of modern cybersecurity through the adoption of the Zero Trust principle. This approach relies on continuously verifying user identities, device security, and access permissions rather than granting trust based on a user’s location within the network. This approach helps strengthen data and system protection, reduce the risk of unauthorized access, and provide greater flexibility for secure access to digital resources from different locations. However, this does not mean completely eliminating firewalls; rather, it represents an evolution in cybersecurity defense, making digital identity and continuous verification among the key pillars of security in the modern digital workplace.
