As part of its commitment to supporting student-led scientific initiatives and highlighting the latest technological advancements in the medical field, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a specialized scientific seminar presented by second-year students under the title “The Future of Healing: An Introduction to Robotic Surgery.” Seminar Supervision The seminar was conducted under the direct supervision of Engineer Mohammed Abdulkarim. The event aimed to develop students’ research and academic presentation skills while connecting theoretical engineering concepts with the latest technological breakthroughs and practical applications in modern surgical medicine. Scientific Approach and Key Topics During the seminar, students presented a comprehensive overview of intelligent surgical systems, covering several key topics: * Exploring the future of robotic surgery and the role of artificial intelligence and mechatronic engineering in advancing modern surgical instruments and operating rooms. * Explaining the operating principles of robotic surgical systems, such as the da Vinci Surgical System, and how surgeons’ hand movements are translated into highly precise movements inside the human body. * Highlighting the advantages of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), including improved surgical precision, reduced blood loss and procedural risks, faster patient recovery, and enhanced overall healthcare quality. The seminar attracted considerable interest from faculty members and students, providing an opportunity for scientific discussion on the engineering challenges involved in designing and developing robotic surgical systems and potential approaches to overcoming them. Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) The seminar directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, particularly: * SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: Promoting the use of precise robotic technologies to improve surgical outcomes and reduce risks to patients’ health. * SDG 4 – Quality Education: Enhancing students’ scientific communication and presentation skills while promoting modern, interactive learning approaches.
