As part of its commitment to strengthening social responsibility and promoting the values of solidarity, compassion, and generosity, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a humanitarian activity involving a visit to the boys’ and girls’ orphanage in Babylon Governorate. The initiative aimed to bring joy to the children, foster a spirit of solidarity and giving, and highlight the university’s humanitarian role in serving the community. The activity was supervised by the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Mayada Waheed Falah, and the Department Rapporteur, Assistant Lecturer Lina Hussein Ali, with the assistance of Assistant Professor Dr. Uday Hamza Hamoud and Assistant Lecturer Zahra Hussein Mohammed, and the participation of a group of students. This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to encouraging humanitarian initiatives and instilling a culture of volunteerism among its students. The visit included providing material and emotional support to the children and engaging with them in a warm and caring atmosphere characterized by kindness and compassion. These interactions helped bring smiles to their faces and made them feel valued and cared for. The initiative also provided an opportunity to raise students’ awareness of the importance of social responsibility, emphasizing that the role of an engineer extends beyond scientific and technical achievements to include serving people and contributing to the well-being of society. This activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, by supporting vulnerable groups and promoting the values of solidarity and community engagement.
