The Department of Media at the College of Arts and Humanities at Al-Mustaqbal University organised a specialised awareness workshop on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, entitled “Drugs in Iraqi Society and the Role of Media in Promoting Awareness and Prevention”. The workshop was held in the halls of the Humanities Building, with broad participation from department students, as part of efforts to strengthen intellectual and social resilience. The workshop sessions were delivered by two faculty members from the Department of Media: Assistant Professor Dr Abdul-Kadhim Mohammed Aswaid and Assistant Lecturer Sabah Abbas Khalaf. The session provided a scientific examination of the spread of narcotic substances and their dangerous effects on health, society, and security. It also explored the strategic responsibility of media institutions and digital platforms in disseminating purposeful awareness messages and promoting a culture of prevention and caution against the dangers of this scourge, particularly among young people. The interactive workshop aimed to enhance students’ digital and practical awareness of the consequences of these harmful substances and emphasise the importance of employing advanced media tools to produce purposeful content that contributes to protecting society and positively guiding behaviour. This event forms part of the Department of Media’s plans at Al-Mustaqbal University to harness its academic and journalistic role in addressing vital national issues that affect citizens’ security and the safety of the social environment.
