As part of its efforts to enhance technological skills and support digital transformation in academic and healthcare institutions, the Biomedical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organised a specialised scientific workshop entitled “Smart Sensors (Strain Gauge) and Their Role in Digital Transformation”, as part of the programme “Towards a Digital Society: Digital Literacy.”
About the Workshop and Organising Team
The workshop was presented and directly supervised by:
* Engineer Mohammed Abdul Karim Razouqi
The workshop aimed to promote digital literacy, develop students’ skills in using modern technologies, and prepare them to integrate smart sensors with advanced software systems used in the medical field.
Scientific Topics and Content
The workshop covered several advanced technological and engineering topics, including:
* Introduction to Smart Strain Gauge Sensors: Explaining the concept of smart strain gauges and their operating principles in converting mechanical changes and physical stress into digital electrical signals.
* Integration with Digital Systems: Explaining how sensors are connected to digital systems and their role in advancing modern measurement technologies and accurately processing biomedical data.
* Medical Applications of Smart Sensors: Highlighting applications such as biomedical pressure measurement, load monitoring in prosthetic limbs, and analysing the mechanical performance of diagnostic and rehabilitation medical devices.
* The Importance of Digital Transformation in Biomedical Engineering: Emphasising how modern technologies can improve the efficiency of medical devices and equipment while reducing human error.
The workshop witnessed considerable interaction among attendees, who praised the relevance of the topics discussed in keeping pace with technological advancements and expanding students’ knowledge and academic horizons.
Activity Objectives in Line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
This scientific workshop directly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, particularly:
* SDG 4 – Quality Education: By promoting digital literacy, enhancing practical learning, and developing students’ technological skills.
* SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Through encouraging innovation and employing modern sensors and digital technologies to support biomedical engineering infrastructure.
* SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: By contributing to the development of digital measurement devices and applications that serve the healthcare sector and improve medical diagnostic accuracy.
