Smart lighting systems represent one of the modern technologies contributing to enhanced electrical energy efficiency and reduced consumption. They rely on automated control technologies and smart sensors to regulate lighting operation based on actual demand. These systems are characterized by their ability to conserve energy and improve lighting quality, alongside their role in fostering environmental and economic sustainability. Smart lighting systems operate on a set of advanced technologies, most notably motion sensors and ambient light sensors, which automatically turn lighting on or off based on human occupancy and natural light levels. Furthermore, smart control technologies enable the dimming of light intensity and the scheduling of operating hours, directly reducing electrical waste and achieving optimal energy utilization. The importance of these systems is particularly evident in university buildings, laboratories, and industrial facilities due to the operational efficiency they offer and the resulting reduction in energy and maintenance costs. Adopting energy-efficient lighting solutions, such as LED luminaires integrated with smart control networks, represents a vital step toward modernizing electrical infrastructure and fulfilling sustainability requirements. In this context, the Department of Electrical Engineering Techniques strives to raise awareness regarding the importance of modern technologies in rationalizing electrical energy consumption, while encouraging students to innovate and develop applied projects that enhance the efficiency of electrical systems. Expanding the deployment of smart lighting systems serves as an essential strategic direction toward building a sustainable future. Al-Mustaqbal University: The First University in Iraq.
