For the purpose of attaining the United Nations SDGs, the 1st International Conference on the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals launched its activities on Monday 6th June 2022, lasting for two days period, in Istanbul. The conference has been organized by Al-Mustaqbal University College, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, and Altınbaş University.
The opening ceremony of the conference activities has been headed by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Al-Zuhairi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, where in a speech he referred to the number of research papers submitted to the conference, and that 123 of these papers have been accepted in AIP Conference Proceedings – Scopus.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College has clarified in his speech the importance of partnerships represented in local as well as international cooperation in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, and it should be noted that the administrations are fully in charge of conducting these partnerships and cooperation.
MUC initiatives that aim to achieve SDGs under the well-known slogan “Towards a Sustainable University” have been reviewed by the researchers Dr. Abdallah and Dr. Muhammad Al-Zuhairi. The College indeed has been keen on adopting three pioneering projects, which aim to establish a Sustainable Community where people live comfortably and adequately.
A group of researchers have conducted seminars related to SDGs applications. For instance, Mr. Hakan, Head of Research at Altınbaş University has talked about recycling materials and plastic waste. Besides, Prof Qamar Al-Zaman from Malaysia has been hosted to talk about renewable energy, and modern techniques used for cooling solar cells, in addition to Energy Storage Systems PCM (Phase Change Material).
It is remarkable to note as well that the first day of the conference has witnessed the opening of the “Scientific Posters Exhibit”, and the Evening Sessions, which started at 2:30 p.m. where lots of topics on Health, Environment and Engineering have been widely discussed. These sessions have been organized in three separate halls, and some have been conducted virtually.
There is no doubt that Al-Mustaqbal University College has had an essential and active role in all types of participating as well as in organizing the various activities.
