An Applied Campaign to Introduce Farmers to Modern Irrigation Techniques

Under the Guardianship of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, and within the College Program to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically, SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth, the Department of Accounting has organized an Applied Campaign to introduce farmers to “Modern Irrigation Techniques”, in cooperation with the Directorate of Agriculture in Babylon / Department of Agricultural Guidance.
It is remarkable to note that Dr. Hamid Abbas Muhammad Al-Marzouq, Head of the Sustainable Development Committee in the Department, has participated in the activity, in addition to the Academics Assist Prof. Dr. Ezzildin Hassan Kadhim, Mr. Hassan Tahir Breibur, Mr. Hazim Muhammad Dayikh, Mr. Zein Al -Abdin Aboud Kadhim with some of the Fourth Year Students. It should be noted as well that The Head & Officials of the Agricultural Guidance Department have had an active participation in the Applied Campaign.
This Campaign has aimed to introduce farmers to the benefits of using modern irrigation techniques that can be summarized as follows:
1. Rationalizing water consumption and thus maintaining the agricultural process by saving 20 – 50 percent of the irrigation water.
2. Performing the fertilizing process during irrigation, which might lead to saving 30% of the fertilizer.
3. Saving time with the ability to control the irrigation schedule, day or night, and thus manipulating water needs as well as achieving irrigation efficiency.
4. Eliminating Fungal Diseases that might result from increased humidity associated with high temperature, especially when using the traditional methods of irrigation.
5. Increase of nutritional components, which shall lead to better product and enhancement of marketing specifications.
6. Rise of products with improved specifications.
