Despite that Green Education is considered somehow a Modern Concept in the Scientific and Academic Fields it has become indeed a Milestone in various aspects of Al-Mustaqbal University, especially in the context of its continuous pursuit for Excellence through the embodiment of the Slogan that it has adopted earlier: Towards a Sustainable University.
We are obliged to note that Green Education aims to increase Students Environmental Awareness, and meanwhile developing and improving their Mental and Social Skills to provide Healthy and Sustainable Environment as well as promoting the Practice of Environmentally Friendly Activities, being quite capable of facing Future Challenges.
Prof Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University has clarified in a Statement released to the University Media that the University has been seeking, for quite some time, to embody the Concept of Green Education in all Work Areas within the University through the adoption of Technologies, Applications, Strategies, and Practices related to that Concept, including Renewable Energies, Waste Treatment & Recycling, Water Conservation, Sustainable Agriculture, Gradual Shifting towards Electronic Services, Minimization of using Paper in Correspondences, Utilization of Distant Learning, and Environmentally Friendly Practices, keeping in mind that all these practices have led to placing Al-Mustaqbal University in an Advanced Position Locally and Globally in the TIMES IMPACT Ranking of 2024. In another part of his Speech, Prof Dr. Majdi has pointed out that the University has been seeking as well to integrate the Goals of Sustainability into the Curricula at all levels with the aim of motivating Students to adopt Sustainable Practices in their daily lives.
In this regard, number of Study Subjects related to Sustainable Development has reached 311, constituting almost 30% of the total number of Subjects taught at the University Colleges, being 1,020,020, with the largest percentage has been assigned to First Year Stage, followed by the rest in succession.
We are obliged to note after all that College of Engineering & Technology has been Ranked First among the University Colleges in terms of Study Subjects related to Sustainability, amounting to 66 Subjects, followed in the Second Place by College of Health and Medical Technologies, with 50 Subjects.
It is worth noting that the aforementioned Study Materials do meet Ten of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), foremost of which is SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being, followed by SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities, SDG4: Quality Education, SDG 7: Affordable & Clean Energy, SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, & Strong Institutions.
Finally, Al-Mustaqbal University President has concluded his Speech, emphasizing the need to move ahead in the consolidation of Green Education Concept, and enriching the Academic Vocabulary with the greatest possible amount of Sustainability Concepts that would meet the largest number of Goals and for all Educational Levels.
