Under the Guardianship and Presence of Prof Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Al-Mustaqbal Festival Activities for Support of People with Special Needs have been launched, being organized by Student Activities Department, as part of the University Efforts regarding provision of Services to Local Community, due to being the First Institution in Iraq that has raised the slogan “Towards a Sustainable University.”
We should note however that Prof Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, has clarified in a Statement released to the Media that the University Presidency shall spare no effort in providing all required facilities for People with Disabilities, and in a way that would ensure their appropriate access to Education and Knowledge, in addition to participating in the various Activities & Events that the University do adopt out of its belief in their prominent role in promoting their Society. Prof Dr. Majdi proceeds with his Statement emphasizing that thus, Cohesive Human Relations do prevail and all people are equal, being fully respected without any type of discrimination. Meanwhile, His Excellency has referred to the ongoing support that the University provides to this important Segment of Society, without being limited to University Students, but extending to other Categories of Affiliates and Visitors.
For his part, Prof Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, has pointed out in his Speech that the Festival represents an opportunity to spread awareness, specifically among Students, appreciating all efforts exerted and evaluating the exceptional abilities that People with Disabilities do possess, who keep confirming every day that strength is not only manifested by Physical Capabilities, but rather they can be expressed through their Thinking Abilities that would undoubtedly lead to achieving unique successes. There is no doubt that People with Disabilities have amazingly turned difficulties into achievement, and obstacles into a Model of Success and Optimism.
In another part of his Speech, Al-Zuhairi has pointed out that Al-Mustaqbal University has been witnessing many Qualitative Events represented by Scientific Accomplishments, Promising Initiatives, in addition to its Active Presence in all Forums so as to confirm that it is not just a Traditional Institution, but rather a Scientific & Cultural Community with its Distinctive Presence in all Aspects of Scientific, Cultural, Social and Political Life.
As for Mr. Muwaffaq Al-Khafaji, being the Representative of People with Disabilities in Iraq, he has delivered a Speech as well, in which he has focused on the importance of these people and the necessity of providing them with all types of support and assistance, appreciating meanwhile the Initiative taken by Al-Mustaqbal University, which indicates the University interest in this Segment of Community through what has been provided for them, ensuring their access to all Vital Facilities on the University Campus, inviting other Universities and Academic Institutions to take similar steps.
The Festival that has been attended by a Large Gathering of Guests, Heads of Relevant Organizations, Distinguished Personnel, as well as a number of University Professors, Employees and Students, has witnessed Artistic Performances urging for support to these people, enriched with Inspiring Success Stories.
Finally, the Festival has been concluded by honoring Distinguished People with Disabilities as well as other Participants in the Festival with Shields and Certificates of Appreciation, in addition to taking Souvenir Photos.
