Growing Iraqi Presence in the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings with 32 Participating Universities

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027 announced its results today, recording the participation of 32 Iraqi universities in the global rankings, reflecting the growing presence of Iraqi higher education institutions in international university rankings. The participation included 25 universities affiliated with the Federal Government and 7 universities from the Kurdistan Region. The University of Technology ranked highest among Iraqi universities, placing in the 1001–1200 global band, followed by the University of Anbar, which was placed in the 1201–1400 band. Iraqi private universities also recorded a presence in the rankings, most notably Al-Mustaqbal University, which was placed in the 1201–1400 global band, alongside The Islamic University, which was ranked within the same band. The 2027 edition marks a clear expansion in Iraq’s presence in the rankings, as the number of ranked Iraqi universities increased from 25 universities in the 2026 edition to 32 universities in the 2027 edition, representing an increase of 7 universities, or 28%. The 2026 edition had also recorded an increase in the number of ranked Iraqi universities, rising from 22 universities in 2025 to 25 universities in 2026. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings evaluates universities through a range of indicators covering teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry engagement. The 2027 edition includes 2,297 universities from 118 countries and regions. Al-Mustaqbal University – The No. 1 Private University in Iraq.
