In a scientific achievement that reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s presence in the field of scientific research, a joint research team has published an advanced scientific study in the internationally renowned Journal of Power Sources, published by Elsevier. The journal is ranked in the first quartile (Q1), with an Impact Factor of 8.2 and an H-index of 396. The study focuses on developing innovative materials for hydrogen storage and supporting clean energy applications.
The research is entitled:
“Dimensionality Effects on Hydrogen Storage Performance in MgO-like Biphenylene Network”
The study investigates how dimensionality affects hydrogen storage performance in an MgO-like biphenylene network.
The research team comprised Professor Ahmed H. Ati, Mohammed S. Abed, Dr. Mohammed M. Obeid, and Qiang Sun. Their collaborative work aims to develop promising scientific solutions in the field of sustainable energy technologies.
The study aimed to design and analyze innovative nanomaterials based on MgO-like biphenylene networks and investigate the effects of their geometric dimensionality on hydrogen storage efficiency. The researchers employed Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations to examine one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional models, contributing to a better understanding of the relationship between material geometry and hydrogen storage performance in energy applications.
The results demonstrated a gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity of up to 9.09 wt%, in addition to a volumetric storage capacity of 128.14 g/L for one-dimensional nanotubes. The findings also indicated that controlling the geometric dimensionality of the material could offer a promising strategy for enhancing hydrogen storage properties without requiring complex chemical modifications.
These findings are scientifically significant in light of global efforts to develop hydrogen storage technologies, as hydrogen is considered a promising option for supporting the transition to clean energy sources. The study also opens new avenues for designing nanomaterials with enhanced properties to meet the demands of future energy applications.
This achievement highlights the importance of scientific research and collaboration among researchers in developing innovative solutions to scientific and technological challenges, thereby strengthening the university’s presence in the international research community and supporting sustainable development.
