The Department of Aviation Technologies Engineering at the College of Engineering Technology, University of the Future, conducted a field case study entitled "Measuring and Reducing the Carbon Footprint on University Campus" on Monday, November 2, 2026. The study was prepared by Assistant Lecturer Al-Buraq Haider Mohsen, Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Haider Shaheed, and Assistant Professor Dr. Taysir Sameer Jaaz. It aimed to evaluate students' daily practices, analyze their environmental impact, and propose scientific solutions to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability across the university campus. The study relied on distributing field questionnaires to students across the university campus, covering several key areas, including electricity consumption, the use of single-use plastic materials, paper consumption rates, transportation methods, and environmental awareness. It also sought to identify the most effective initiatives for reducing the university's carbon footprint. The findings revealed widespread use of single-use plastic and paper products, continued reliance on printed documents, and instances of air conditioning and lighting systems operating in unoccupied classrooms and laboratories. These observations highlighted the importance of adopting practical solutions to improve resource efficiency and minimize environmental impacts. The study presented several recommendations, including implementing smart control systems and motion sensors to optimize electricity consumption, expanding the use of solar energy, encouraging digital transformation to reduce paper consumption, limiting single-use plastics, and promoting sustainable transportation within the university campus. Furthermore, the study aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 13 (Climate Action). These objectives emphasize the role of scientific research in addressing environmental challenges and supporting the transition toward a more sustainable university campus. This initiative forms part of the research and field activities undertaken by the Department of Aviation Technologies Engineering at University of the Future. It reflects the department's commitment to applying scientific research to identify environmental challenges, develop practical solutions, and promote responsible resource consumption and environmental awareness among members of the university community. #University_of_the_Future_Ranks_First_Among_Private_Universities_in_Iraq
