The Media Department at the College of Arts and Humanities, Al-Mustaqbal University, held a specialized workshop titled "Artificial Intelligence: A New Power in the World of Media and Politics." The event took place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, attended by an elite group of academics, students, and media professionals. The workshop was presented by Lecturer Dr. Mundhir Ali Ahmed, Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Nihad Khalil, and Assistant Lecturer Maryam Abdul Karim Sahib. They addressed the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a system based on learning from humans and excelling in performing tasks, noting that it is powered by algorithms and software designed to process data and learn from outcomes. The lecturers emphasized that AI is reshaping the media process—from political analysis to content delivery—explaining that its impact extends to media quality by identifying data patterns that humans might miss, thereby enhancing the accuracy and depth of reports, despite existing limitations regarding complex ethical decision-making. The workshop reviewed controversial global examples, most notably Japanese author Rie Kudan, who relied on ChatGPT to write her Akutagawa Prize-winning novel; she stated that about 5% of the sentences were quoted verbatim from AI outputs to inspire ideas she felt unable to discuss with others. The workshop also discussed criticisms of AI in the creative field, citing the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike and concerns over using technology to generate scripts at lower costs while reducing original writing. The session witnessed fundamental questions regarding how to maintain journalistic and ethical values amidst increasing automation, and how to balance technology with the human touch in media. The workshop concluded with a forward-looking vision, asserting that we are at the threshold of a new era where AI is an integral part of the media and political fabric, calling for collective action to steer this technology toward a sustainable and effective future.
