Ms. Aya Firas Neamah , from the English Department at the College of Education, Al-Mustaqbal University, has published an insightful educational and humanitarian article addressing student academic decline, titled: "From Blame to Support: How to Rescue Struggling University Students".  The article highlights that the university stage is one of the most critical transitional phases in a person's life, where students face new academic, psychological, and social pressures. The author points out that traditional, knee-jerk reactions from some educational institutions or parents toward sudden decline or frequent absenteeism often involve blame and penalties. She emphasizes that pointing fingers without understanding underlying motives yields counterproductive results, inducing frustration and driving students further into absenteeism or dropping out, as blame dampens resolve whereas support builds confidence.  To provide effective help, the article analyzes the root causes of decline, categorizing them into psychological and social factors like anxiety and family pressures; financial circumstances such as working long hours; and academic challenges like poor counseling or overwhelming coursework. Instead of punishment, Ms. Aya proposes constructive steps, including activating academic and psychological counseling, initiating flexible and friendly dialogues, and designing tailored remedial plans such as rescheduling exams or offering time-management workshops. The article concludes by asserting that investing in a student's humanity is the first step toward rescuing their academic future; when students feel that both university and home are supportive environments rather than courtrooms, they find the intrinsic motivation to rebuild and excel.
