In a strategic move that underscores its commitment to global academic openness and elevating its standing in international higher education, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Letter of Intent) with the prestigious British University of Reading. The signing ceremony and subsequent discussions, held in a high-caliber academic atmosphere, were attended by the Iraqi Cultural Counselor in the United Kingdom, Professor Dr. Qusay Al-Ahmadi, who emphasized the significance of this collaboration in supporting sponsored Iraqi students and developing scholarship programs. The British delegation comprised prominent academic and administrative figures, including Professor Elizabeth Allen, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for International Engagement and Head of the University of Reading Global Academy; Professor Keiichi Nakata, Professor of Social Informatics and Director of the Informatics Research Centre at Henley Business School; Mr. Alex Button, Director of Global Engagement and Executive Assistant to the Director of External Relations; and Ms. Irem Ozsoy, Senior Regional Manager for International Student Recruitment.
The signed memorandum establishes a joint framework to advance scientific, academic, and research relations between the two institutions, focusing on three strategic pillars. These include exploring mechanisms for launching dual-degree and academic progression programs, providing Al-Mustaqbal University students with the opportunity to earn degrees accredited by both universities through flexible pathways aligned with international standards. Additionally, the discussions addressed the provision of dedicated scholarship packages and tuition discounts for outstanding students from Al-Mustaqbal University wishing to pursue their studies at the University of Reading, alongside streamlining admission procedures to foster student mobility. The agreement also outlines plans to explore joint scientific research opportunities, initiate research projects between corresponding colleges, exchange expertise among teaching faculties and researchers, and organize joint workshops and scientific conferences.
