Al-Mustaqbal University concluded a specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programs and grants, organized by the European Union Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop brought together representatives of public and private universities across the Middle Euphrates region and was attended by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University. The third and final day featured specialized training and dialogue sessions addressing Erasmus Mundus opportunities for students and academics, key application requirements, university partnerships, and the preparation of joint Master’s program proposals, supporting international academic cooperation and the development of joint educational programs. Sessions also highlighted universities’ role in promoting Erasmus+ opportunities and supporting students in preparing applications. Participants discussed key challenges facing Iraqi universities in engaging with these programs and explored practical steps to address them and strengthen institutional readiness to develop and submit competitive projects and proposals. During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi stressed the importance of moving beyond awareness of Erasmus+ toward transforming available opportunities into practical international partnerships and implementable projects, while using the training outcomes to strengthen Iraqi universities’ capacities and enhance their engagement in European academic and research cooperation programs. Held over three days, the workshop covered Erasmus+ opportunities, institutional capacity building, competitive international project development, International Credit Mobility (ICM), student exchange, administrative and financial aspects of European projects, and Jean Monnet grant applications. Hosting the workshop reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to internationalizing higher education, strengthening global academic partnerships, and enabling students and academics to benefit from EU programs, while encouraging universities across the Middle Euphrates region to develop high-quality projects that advance education, research, and international cooperation.
Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed, Director of the Future Energy Research Center at Al-Mustaqbal University, actively participated in the 3-day specialized training workshop organized by the EU Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. As part of ongoing efforts to solidify academic internationalization and expand global research partnerships, a high-level delegation from the Engineering Technical College at Al-Mustaqbal University actively participated in the comprehensive specialized training workshop organized by the EU Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Department of International and Arab Organizations - Directorate of Scholarships and Cultural Relations). The workshop was hosted by Al-Mustaqbal University over three consecutive days (September 21–23, 2026). The college delegation included: Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed – Director of the ALmustaqbal Energy Research Center. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ammar Abd Al-Kadhim Fathi – Head of the Fuel and Energy Engineering Technology Department. Dr. Mohammed Maitham Obaid – Head of the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College. The active participation of Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed reflects the strategic vision of the Future Energy Research Center to build bridges of scientific cooperation with European universities and research institutions. During the workshop sessions, Dr. Waheed focused on exploring direct funding mechanisms and institutional support provided by the Erasmus+ program for clean energy and sustainable development projects. He emphasized translating training outcomes into competitive research and applied projects that foster innovative renewable energy solutions and enable the Center’s researchers to join international research teams and prestigious global initiatives. Detailed Workshop Overview Across Three Days: The workshop witnessed broad attendance from academic leaders and representatives of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region, featuring intensive training modules covering academic, administrative, and financial dimensions: Day 1: Launched under the patronage and presence of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, alongside Ministry and EU representatives. Discussions centered on institutional capacity building and the importance of international programs, highlighting the university's success in securing a Jean Monnet grant as an exemplary Iraqi model. Day 2: Sessions focused on International Credit Mobility (ICM) and student and academic exchange mechanisms in accordance with Iraqi regulations. Discussions also covered administrative and financial frameworks for opening foreign currency bank accounts to manage EU-funded projects. Day 3 & Closing: Concluded with specialized modules on Joint Master’s Degrees (Erasmus Mundus), application procedures, and international partnership criteria, alongside practical solutions to address challenges facing Iraqi universities in developing competitive project proposals. This participation underscores the firm commitment of the Engineering Technical College and the Future Energy Research Center to advance academic and research outcomes, leveraging international grants and programs to reinforce academic rigor and elevate Al-Mustaqbal University's global standing.

Organized by the European Union Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the workshop brings together representatives of public and private universities from the Middle Euphrates region, supporting the internationalization of higher education and Iraqi universities’ engagement in international projects. The second day opened with remarks by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, representing Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University. He stressed the importance of turning the workshop’s training outcomes into practical action by developing high-quality projects that respond to university and community needs, strengthen institutional and academic performance, create meaningful community impact, and advance the internationalization of higher education in Iraq. The sessions continued with International Credit Mobility (ICM), focusing on student exchange mechanisms and their implementation in line with Iraqi academic regulations, including the recognition of students’ study periods at European universities as part of their approved study periods in Iraq. The workshop also addressed the administrative and financial aspects of EU-funded projects, including the Ministry’s approval for Iraqi public universities to open foreign-currency accounts for managing and implementing EU-funded initiatives, including Erasmus+ projects. Another session introduced Jean Monnet Projects, highlighting their objectives, application mechanisms and preparation requirements. The experiences of Al-Mustaqbal University and Al-Turath University were presented as Iraqi success stories in securing grants under this strand, offering practical models for developing competitive proposals. The day featured active participation through questions, discussions and proposals covering the academic, administrative and technical dimensions of Erasmus+. Al-Mustaqbal University trainees also contributed actively, particularly on university registration, establishing an institutional presence on the EU platform, and designating university representatives for proposed projects. By hosting the workshop, Al-Mustaqbal University reaffirms its commitment to transforming international cooperation from training and knowledge into actionable projects with tangible institutional and community impact, strengthening Iraqi universities, fostering effective academic partnerships, and expanding opportunities for students, researchers and academics.
n a historic moment reflecting academic ambition and international excellence, students from Al-Mustaqbal University celebrated the completion of their intensive training program at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) in front of one of the world's most iconic landmarks—Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster in London, UK. The student delegation showcased a proud representation of their academic institution, captured in commemorative photos and videos featuring their official graduation gowns, certificates of achievement, and the emblem of Al-Mustaqbal University. This gesture expressed their deep pride in their home university, which paved the way for this unique international opportunity. The graduation of these students marks a new milestone in their academic and professional journeys, as they aim to transfer and apply the advanced skills and knowledge gained in the UK back to Iraq, contributing to a more innovative and sustainable future.
The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, has been selected as a keynote speaker at the THE Arab Universities Summit 2026, organized by Times Higher Education (THE) in partnership with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, Kingdom of Morocco, from November 3 to 5, 2026. Representing Iraq and Al-Mustaqbal University at this prestigious regional and international academic gathering, Dr. Majdi will feature in a high-level panel discussion titled: "The role of universities in accelerating the clean energy transition", scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in the "Ibn Rushd" Hall. The session will foster a strategic dialogue alongside a distinguished group of academic experts and decision-makers, including Dr. Tadgh O'Donovan, Chief Scientist at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, and will be moderated by Ms. Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Director at Ajman University. Discussions will center on the pivotal role of academic and research institutions in fostering sustainable development, innovating renewable energy solutions, and driving environmental transformation across the Arab region. Furthermore, the University President will participate in the closed Presidents' Roundtable to address alignment between higher education outcomes and labor market demands amidst environmental challenges and resource constraints. This selection underscores the prominent academic standing Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved in global rankings, as well as its active contribution to sustainable development and clean energy initiatives regionally and internationally.
The Dean of the Engineering Technical College at Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, participated in the 4th International Scientific Conference on Modern Technologies in Oil and Gas Industries. The event was held in partnership with the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology and Mid-Refineries Company (MRC). The delegation from Al-Mustaqbal University, led by deans and department heads, actively participated in the conference, presenting the latest scientific research and advancements in oil industries and sustainable energy. In recognition of his distinguished leadership and academic contributions to the success of the conference, Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd was awarded the Excellence Shield. Additionally, Al-Mustaqbal University and its delegation were honored with shields and certificates of appreciation for their dedication to advancing scientific research and technological innovation.
